Cambodia's mineral resources had not been extensively explored and developed in the past two decades because of war, internal conflict, and the lack of appropriate legislation and policy to attract foreign investors. In 2001, Management and Exploitation of Mineral Resources Law was introduced as a government effort for attracting investment in this sector.

VCS Mining is currently exploring two promising gold-bearing locations in Cambodia; Kratie and Preah Vihear.
