Why Invest in Haiti?

Government

Legal and economic policies have been revised to create a favorable climate for foreign investment. These new policies have renewed interest in Haiti, now known to be the heart of the mining investment community.

New Directive

Improve Haiti's economy and create jobs, while protecting the interests of the country and its population.

Presence

The United Nations Stabilization Mission (MINUSTAH) has a mandate to restore a secure and stable environment, to promote the political process, to strengthen Haiti’s Government institutions and rule-of-law-structures, as well as to promote and to protect human rights.

The Bill Clinton Foundation is helping create a list of NGO businesses to assist Haiti in construction, infrastructure, and textile industries.

in July 2009, Haiti received an International Monetary Fund relief of debts for achieving necessary requirements of the Enhanced Initiative for Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC).  The Inter-American Development bank has handed out over $120 million US in 2009 so far.

A New Era For Mining

This is a newly rekindled industry as Haiti has a very limited mining extraction past. The potential in this under-explored and under-exploited region is tremendous.  In the 1980's, mining accounted for only 1% of the GDP and employed only 1% of its labor force.  There is much opportunity for growth in this sector.

The geological potential of Haiti's exploration landscape is for epithermal gold-silver, and gold-copper deposits in the north-east, and south-east regions.  The island of Hispanola, shared with the Dominican Republic, is situated on the Caribbean Plate which is oceanic in nature, and only 200 million years old. This geologic environment hosts various gold and copper occurrences in Haiti.  The geology is very similar to the Pueblo Viejo deposit in the neighboring Dominican Republic.

As reported by Barrick (www.barrick.com), Pueblo Viejo had 215 million tons of proven and probable reserves containing 20.4 million ounces of gold, 117.3 million ounces of silver, and 423.5 million pounds of copper as of year-end 2007 reporting by Barrick.

Even though Haiti's mineral potential is similar to that found in the Dominican Republic, it has remained under-explored.  VCS Mining now has the ability to open this prime land for development.
